Volvo Trucks develops autonomous transport solution in Norwegian mines and quarries
Volvo Trucks aims to meet ever more demanding and personalized demand and therefore will provide to Norway, the first independent commercial limestone transport solution, from an open pit to the adjacent port.
This solution consists of limestone road transport along a five-kilometer stretch through several tunnels located between the mine and the crusher - transport will be provided by six freelander Volvo FH trucks. The tests were successful and the solution is only a few months away.
The agreement (that aimed at transporting limestone rather than the acquisition of trucks) comes as a result of recent successful automation projects in the fields of mining, sugarcane harvesting and garbage collection. According to Volvo, this commercial solution represents an exciting challenge. Will the Portuguese Extractive Industry in the near future opt for this type of transport?
