How MVC recycles nearly all the water we use

In Portugal we have this saying which can be roughly translated to: “persistent soft water can pierce through hard stone”. It’s equivalent to the English saying “many little strokes fell great oaks”. This is exactly the case at MVC - Portuguese Limestones as we use water to aid the extraction and cutting processes. But we are very conscious of our water usage and have several policies in place to reduce and reuse this precious substance.

At MVC - Portuguese Limestones we use water to cool down and lubricate cutting machinery and remove stone residue both in the quarry and the factory. In our factory, the technology we use is extremely efficient, relying on low cubicage of water to run such heavy machinery. Besides, we have factory-wide recovery drains, in order to recycle water. The drains take the water with stone residue to a couple decantation tanks in our premises, allowing us to recycle virtually 100% of the nearly 1 million cubic meters of water our factory utilizes. You can learn more about this process on this video. The water treatment process also produces a limestone past, that we currently use to fill closed quarries, to begin the work to reinstate the original on-site ecology.

This is one of the eco-friendly policies we have in place in order to reduce our environmental impact. As we have seen, limestone can be one of the greenest building materials and in the next couple of weeks we will continue do dwelve on our techniques to protect the environment while covering the world with portuguese limestone.
